The 2010 Competition

The Competition – dates and details!

The Welsh Curry House of the Year 2010 competition will follow the same successful formula as 2009 and will continue to have three regional heats giving a larger number of restaurants and the voting public the opportunity to participate in the competition.

The four key stages and dates for the competition are:

Stage One: The Launch

The Competition to find the best curry house in Wales was launched on Thursday 26 November 2009. The media launch took place in Rhyl, at the location of the 2009 competition winner, Kareems - The Restaurant.

Stage Two: The Public Votes

The public will be able to vote from 26 November 2009 – 31 January 2010.

All the restaurants competing in 2010 are registered in the Kingfisher Lager Directory of Indian Restaurants and members of the public can register their vote for their favourite restaurant on-line or using voting cards which are available in participating restaurants.

Stage Three: The Really Welsh Curry Challenge - Regional Finals

The results of the public vote will be announced on Thursday 4th February 2010. The top 20 restaurants, 10 from South Wales and 5 each from North and Mid & West, will be announced via our media partners and competition website.

All 20 of the short listed restaurants will have to agree to include the Really Welsh Curry as part of their public menus during the month of February 2010.

The competition’s pre selection jury will have two weeks to visit the 20 restaurants and sample the Really Welsh Curry using the guidelines which proved successful in 2009.

The top three restaurants in Wales, one from each region, will be announced during three regional awards events.

Wednesday 24 Feb 2010: North Wales Winner

Thursday 25 Feb 2010: Mid & West Wales Winner

Friday 26 Feb 2010: South Wales Winner

Stage Four: The National Final

The final stage of the competition will involve the National Judges visiting all three of the restaurants competing in the final. During the visit each restaurant will be invited to impress the judges with one of their signature dishes, available from the public menu.

The visit will also include a second challenge, with each restaurant being invited to create a new dish using the very best ingredients from Really Welsh.

The National Judges will be visiting the Top 3 Indian restaurants on:

·         Monday 15 March 2010

·         Tuesday 16 March 2010

·         Wednesday 17 March 2010

The Final Award Ceremony will take place on Thursday 18 March 2010 in Cardiff.
